Join the Irish Center as we welcome Socks in the Frying Pan!
Forged in the heart of Ennis, County Clare — the beating pulse of Irish traditional music — Socks in the Frying Pan are one of the most electrifying and distinctive trios on the global folk scene today. Multi-award-winning, road-hardened, and relentlessly engaging, the band delivers a sound that is at once rooted in tradition and thrillingly contemporary.
The unmistakable “Socks Sound” blends breathtaking virtuosity, pitch-perfect harmonies, driving rhythm, and razor-sharp wit. At the centre is master accordionist Shane Hayes, whose fearless playing and commanding presence propel the band with rhythmic power and lyrical finesse. Around him, the trio’s rich vocal blend, dynamic fiddle lines, and inventive accompaniment create performances that are as musically sophisticated as they are wildly entertaining.
Renowned for their explosive live shows and natural on-stage chemistry, Socks in the Frying Pan have earned a reputation as one of the most compelling live acts in Irish music. Their performances are fast-paced, joy-filled, and deeply connected — equal parts concert, session, and shared celebration.
Internationally, the band has toured 48 U.S. states, played every continent, and appeared at some of the world’s most respected festivals, including Walnut Valley Festival (Kansas), Electric Picnic, Tønder Festival, and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Their global reach is matched by an ever-growing list of accolades, including Best New Band, Best Live Band, Album of the Year, and Best Live Performance of the Year.
To date, Socks in the Frying Pan have released five albums — three studio recordings, the award-winning live album Raw & Ríl (recorded at Glór Theatre and honoured as Best Live Album), and Waiting for Inspiration (2024), an entirely original release that showcases the band’s songwriting depth and musical range. The album marked a bold creative step forward and was submitted for Grammy consideration, further cementing the band’s place at the forefront of modern Irish music.
With unmatched musicianship, undeniable charisma, and a sound that crackles with energy, Socks in the Frying Pan remain one of the most exciting and authentic forces in Irish traditional music today — a band that fills halls, lifts roofs, and leaves audiences buzzing long after the final note.
